Claire Engkaninan Low's first solo art show, Academia, was on show in July 2025

 

Academia was a deep exploration of two of Claire's main passions: close studies of Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) illustrated in the Victorian tradition of the Scott sisters, and Greco-Roman statues of the idealised human form. They were combined in juxtapositions that show harmony between the curves of a painted wing and the lines and shapes inherent in the human form. Inspiration was drawn from cabinets of curiosities, erudite sculpture collections of renowned museums, and the dark academia aesthetic.

Academia was on show at Art Gallery on Darling, 307 Darling Street, Balmain from 1-6 July 2025.
