Libby Moore is a multi award-winning painter who I associate with luminous, clear objects rendered with brightness and brilliance in still life paintings. Being both transparent and reflective, the clear objects, such as glass vessels, reveal things about their environment and Libby herself. For example, her painting that won the Local Artist Award in the Hornsby Art Prize last year, 'Just put your feet up for a while', shows a backyard view bending beautifully in the glossy surface of a squat vase. As Libby explains in her statement, she was painting outside to keep an eye on her husband who was supposed to be resting but had gotten a chainsaw out.
Libby and I were both in the Hornsby Art Prize last year - it's how we met - and we're in another show together right now, the Reimagine Art Prize 2024. Her Reimagine 2024 work, 'I’m going this way', features yet more gorgeous vessels that gleam with captured light, but this time, on repurposed plywood that has been weathered beautifully by the various activities of her family and pet.

Libby Moore is the 32nd in my series of creatives to take five questions.
When my creative process is stuck, I reach for... artwork images online or a book on the work of an artist who’s currently inspiring me.
The weirdest thing about being a creative human is... always being desperate to capture every moment in a photo or a painting.
The most unusual object in my house is... an antique Russian tea urn that looks like it might contain someone’s ashes. I’ve hidden it.
I celebrate my achievements by... creating more art and working harder. Making art is a compulsion.
Something in the world that already exists that I wish I had created is... the easel that rotates paintings.
Libby Moore's artwork is on show at the Reimagine Art Prize along with that of other finalists until 26 May 2024 at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, Hornsby.
